The Nature of Free (Kodingen is Free!)
Many of us were brought up to be suspicious of “free”. We live by sayings like, “You get what you pay for”, or “Nothing in this world is free”. However, the new “free” is Free.
This free seemed to have no strings attached: It wasn’t just a lure for a future sale, but genuinely gratis. Most of us depend on one or more Google services every day, but they never show up on our credit card. No meter ticks as you use Facebook. Wikipedia costs you nothing.
Today’s free is not a loss leader or buy one get one free. Today free is Free. Unlimited usage and limitless availability are realities we all enjoy around our access to information.

How do you make money? If I’m to put my eggs in your basket I want you to survive nicely.

Hi Juan, Don’t worry about it :) we will also have paid features very soon. You will be able to buy inexpensive VMs, development sandboxes, more resources, domains, databases etc. We are just warming up just yet..

Sounds great! By the way: I very much enjoyed your ‘Jason’s Shark Tank’ pitch the second time I listened to it. For our students’ web dev association and Kodingen seems like a match made in heaven. I’ll be watching closely :)

Where was Kodingen when I was wasting my time messing around with all those bad hosts I was using?
I’m going to transfer my website soon, Kodingen is made of pure win! And the fact that it’s free is mind-blowingly awesome!

Thanks Scott! It’s hard to respond to a comment that’s that awesome!

It’s free, sure, but give us fair warning if you plan on implementing ads. I don’t mind ads myself but the more useful the ads, the better.
Mar 23, 2011 @ 10:59:15
we hate ads! we will find a way to make money without irritating ourselves..
Mar 23, 2011 @ 23:51:37
Ads aren’t so bad, I just don’t really like how most go about serving their users with ‘useful’ ads. Also ads to the user are better than ads to the users own users/viewers/users.

i think most sites overuse ads, they treat each signup an automatic consent to newsletters, when you unsubscribe, then you get other junk to your inbox. very small contextual ads are maybe fine, i don’t mind the ones on gmail either for example, they never block me from reading my email.

I agree Devrim, I have an email address dedicated to signing up for things on the net. I get about 100 emails a day to that account. I do go over them, but most of it is fishing and scams; other stuff received may or may not have anything to do with the service that required the sign-up. ?? – As for gmail ads, being able to choose what ads are placed on my emails would be awesome and fun :)

Best is, no ads at all on the whole internet. Best is, to never receive spam in our precious emailbox. Kodingen has neither, so they are the best! So simple :)

@patatjenl thanks for noticing that.. we’ll fight till the end to keep it that way – there must be hope for a world without those little annoyances :)

My favorite quote: “And yes, Kodingen is free and will stay free.”! Keep it up, I can not ask for more than such a great FREE-IN-EVERYTHING service like this :). Love you ^^! [x]
