Sorry we’re delayed
Hi Everyone,
We’re receiving no less than a few emails every single day asking about the release, encouraging us to release or being angry about the release :) Thanks a lot.
I’m going to cut this short – there are many reasons, but primary ones,
+ we are trying to achieve multi server backend per uid
+ we are leaving wordpress
+ we are moving to a new stack that holds all apps in one
Stuff we tried that didn’t work,
+ c++ multiserver http/socket communications (4 months/3 developers)
+ cocoa style frontend development (5 months 2 devs – we tried this twice!)
+ pure js/css frontend (4 devs 4 months – those are made for sites, not for apps)
+ golang multiserver http/socket communications (this did work well – but then we liked ours more)
I will write more on those later on a different topic but just to let you know, we have spent 18 months with 5 devs on average on this release.
Two things to take out,
+ first, now we know what works and we are about to finalize our current stack (seriously no changes anymore :))
+ second, Kodingen v1.0 works really REALLY well!
I’m not going to make concrete promises here, because we want to do it good. Also, this is a project that runs with our own savings, we really can’t afford much, expensive developers, or even full time developers are beyond our reach. We gotta do it within our own constraints (and it is fun that way!). But of course we don’t want you to wait any longer. We’re annoyed, excited, frustrated, happy, sad more than anyone, and we want to put an end to that emotional turmoil. Good news is, we’re now testing our new release internally, so it’s live on our screens..
Hopefully we will bring it to your screens very soon!
Cheers!
Devrim

Thanks for the update! Greatly looking forward to release. =)
Mar 16, 2011 @ 18:07:05
Brilliant to know where you guys are at!
Mar 17, 2011 @ 17:07:33
Much appreciated update – Can seriously not wait to see the final results! =)
Mar 19, 2011 @ 13:08:04
Kodingen is the most beautiful ODE out there. Really looking forward to 1.0!
Mar 20, 2011 @ 22:55:06
Mostly I’m just really anticipating collaboration. I’m working on a web site senior project for school, and I’m in a team of 4. It would be great for us to use Kodingen to develop our project together.
Mar 22, 2011 @ 05:27:34
I can’t wait! If you need any help testing, just let me know! ;-)
Mar 22, 2011 @ 21:20:41
Cool man. Communication is always good. Thanks for the update.
Mar 23, 2011 @ 09:21:13
Just read on NetTuts+ on Cloud9 IDE (nv used it but looks promising) which is open source IDE, perhaps it could be integrated with Kodingen.
Anyway, I would really like to see the “real” Kodingen released. Its working great now, but theres alot of room for improvement! Like keyboard shortcuts, GIT integration etc
Looking forward to the release, like to say thank you for putting in so much effort in making Kodingen great
Mar 24, 2011 @ 10:54:25
No anger here, just anticipation for an even better product! Thanks for the update.
Mar 24, 2011 @ 15:46:20
Thanks for the update, can’t wait for 1.0! Keep up the good work [=
Mar 26, 2011 @ 10:44:12
Much anticipated update ;) So what is replacing WordPress? A completely custom solution or will you still be working with a familiar CMS of sorts?
Mar 28, 2011 @ 10:35:33
While I don’t mind the delay, can you provide more frequent updates? Are you going to be releasing this month, or is there more work to be done?
Mar 28, 2011 @ 18:07:20
Cheers! :) Nobody asked me but i do believe you guys are developing a game-changer.
Mar 28, 2011 @ 19:32:13
Hey folks, thanks for the comments.
@erlendsh a complete custom solution will replace wordpress (which we plan to make opensource later)
@NathanFearnley, yeah we should definitely give status updates more often. Unfortunately i don’t think that we can do it in March, there is just three days left, but we’re pretty damn near :)
@gonzalomass :) I can’t say if it will be a game changer or not but we’re doing our best.
Mar 30, 2011 @ 16:18:46
Awesome possum. You do good work! :)
Apr 01, 2011 @ 10:32:03
it’s always better to take the time to do it right than to half-ass it, we all know this as developers :)
So keep up the good work and we will patiently wait :)
Cheers,
Stéphane
Apr 07, 2011 @ 11:44:04
Awesome guys, keep up the great work
Apr 08, 2011 @ 11:34:27
Looking forward to it!
Apr 11, 2011 @ 05:06:37
We’re annoyed, excited, frustrated, happy, sad more than anyone, and we want to put an end to that emotional turmoil.
W-what…
Apr 15, 2011 @ 09:39:11
Any updates maybe?
Apr 17, 2011 @ 01:08:51
I am getting worried about the long silence from Kodingen. The last time I was following something interesting and there was a long pause the technology was bought by Motorola (Cappuccino and 280 North). I hope we hear something soon.
Apr 17, 2011 @ 04:51:11
I agree with Stéphane P. Péricat; Patience is a bitter plant, but it grows a sweet fruit.
Good luck Dev-Team.
Apr 18, 2011 @ 22:25:45
We trust you everything Kodingen. Just go for it! [x]
May 01, 2011 @ 20:36:46
That is a good news ! good luck & good devs guys !
May 07, 2011 @ 18:30:05
Don’t mean to sound grumpy, but I reckon right about now would be a good time for a new status update. Might wanna do something about that ‘February/March 2011′ assessment on the front page as well.
May 12, 2011 @ 09:30:11
Just signed-up and agree – much of what I have seen is genuinely innovative and it looks fantastic. The only real question I have is regarding the Version Control integration you are proposing. What will you be looking (Subversion, Git, Mercurial)?
May 14, 2011 @ 23:23:46
I agree with Erlend Sogge Heggen. Seeing all the temporarily unavailable features without knowing why they are unavailable or how long it will take for them to become available is unfortunately not helping my confidence in Kodingen. I hope to see more activity here in the near future.
May 15, 2011 @ 15:09:23
@chrisebsa this is beta… Features can be activated and de-activated at will for any reason. I’m just happy that they’ve allowed us to be part of the beta and am giving feedback where I can.
I mean this is a really awesome thing that has been given to us – for free -!
If you’re worried about stability or losing access to features just don’t use Kodingen for heavy developement until the full version release.
@devrim it is probably good that the team has banned you from trying to predict the release dates… :)
May 15, 2011 @ 18:24:50
@eshoberg yes – i’m also happy they banned me from prophesying :) @chrisebsa promise is a promise.. we’ll get there eventually. until then pls give us a little more credit – kodingen is a good investment -)
May 16, 2011 @ 04:42:09
Thanks for the update, really looking forward to 1.0 and keep up the good work…
May 27, 2011 @ 19:00:36
Take your time. Don’t want a buggy product. The more time taken means better results.
May 31, 2011 @ 09:40:22
Hope svn will be there?
Jun 06, 2011 @ 01:18:52
You know, at the very moment I got here I felt fascinated by the project. I think this project its a pretty nice sandbox for either developers or learners. You have my thanks but also my support. As everybody else, I die to play with the new release =) .
Jun 08, 2011 @ 10:02:22
Hopefully release is not too far away.
I am looking to get a few sites hosted and hopefully you guys will be up and running by then!
Jun 16, 2011 @ 17:50:13
ummmm aaahh. * crickets * akward. been like aaaaaah 3 months, aaaaaah mmmmm. * twiddling thumbs * bleep booop bee doo, nothing really is going on with this site, not sure when v1 will be here?
Shoot maybe next year.
Jun 27, 2011 @ 09:50:16
Wonderfull Page so far, is it possible to get an Update about v1?
What is with teams, how long will it still be disabled?
Jun 28, 2011 @ 05:45:32
@sinan What will be released as open source? an alternativ to wordpress or kodingen.com?
Best regards
Niklas
Jul 02, 2011 @ 02:56:03
Take your time, it’s better to release a very stable system than a buggy one
Jul 03, 2011 @ 22:48:22
I understand the need to avoid speculating on the exact release date , but all of us would appreciate ballpark best case and worst case scenario release dates with the understanding that it could be way off .. its better than no communication whatsoever …
Aug 19, 2011 @ 05:17:20
Okay, so this post was two months ago. What’s going on? Have you abandoned it?
Aug 20, 2011 @ 14:43:45
@christalmighty How can we ever abandon this project? :) We’re coming slow but steady.
Aug 31, 2011 @ 02:29:29
Mr. Yasar, I have read Kodingen’s “About” page, as an amateur coder, I must say that you have nailed your vision!
I view Kodingen as the perfect home and perfect platform for all of my purposes. It is a place I will come to for as long as you guys are around!
Even though I have yet to engage the rest of the Kodingen community, I praise you and every developer that has invested their time in the project.
In short, I can’t imagine learning the ropes of coding, without Kodingen being at my side.
Sep 30, 2011 @ 14:44:29
Hey there Kodingen! I really like what you’ve done with the place. As you can see, my name is Deryl R. Doucette and I’m a committer on the RVM project (https://rvm.beginrescueend.com). I see you plan on adding Ruby and Rails support to Kodingen. Is there anything I can do to aid in this? Could I be of assistance on the backend utilizing either SM (https://sm.beginrescueend.com) or RVM for handling per user installations? Could I be of any assistance with enabling and using nginx+unicorn to handle the ability for users to set up their own deployments under subdomains? Anything at all, let me know.
Oct 06, 2011 @ 17:04:07
You guys are doing something pretty amazing here. Even for a beta version this is amazing. Take your time developing. I am new to programming in php and love it. I am very impressed with your commitment to this project. As always, having a simple free version is great. Your prices as they stand now are great, so when I get some traction and understanding of more advanced coding, I will probably upgrade.
Keep up the awesome work!
Tony
Oct 09, 2011 @ 02:38:30
Wonderful! Great job! I’m gonna write about you and this amazing application in my blog!
Nov 16, 2011 @ 17:28:28
Hi Kodingen, I am doing a University project researching Online Collaborative Development Environments. So far your project has the easiest to use and most all round package as I can build and view / run code within one environment. But at the moment you can not do Collaboration. When will this feature be available? Also is there a closed beta testing version I can get access to help my University project?
Dec 01, 2011 @ 09:14:51
Thus far Kodingen looks to be the best option for me and my needs, that is to say once DJango has been added! Once that is in place there is a very good chance that I will be on a purchase plan!
Dec 08, 2011 @ 16:52:24
I’m happy with this awesome application.
Jan 12, 2012 @ 01:29:09
Kodingen is great, just waiting for HTTPS support so facebook stops getting mad at me!
